1. Prepare the Dough

  • Combine the yeast, milk, sugar and vanilla, and allow it to sit for 2-5 minutes for the yeast to work and the mixture to get bubbly. Add 2 cups of flour. Then mix in the salt and egg.
  • While mixing, add the remaining flour, one cup at a time. Keep adding until the dough starts to pull away from the sides.
  • Add the softened butter and knead the dough until it is fully developed.
  • Cover and set aside in a warm place for 1-2 hours or until it has doubled in size.

2. Make the Strawberry Jam

  • Combine the strawberries and sugar in a small saucepan over medium heat, and bring to a simmer, mashing as it cooks.
  • Combine water and cornstarch into a slurry then stir into the strawberries.
  • Cook for 2-3 minutes, then set aside to cool.

  • Roll the dough into a rectangle and cover it with jam. Reserve ½ a cup of jam for later.
  • Roll the dough into a log and cut into 12 equal-sized rolls.

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Bake for 30 minutes and set aside to cool before frosting.
